We Run, We Share, and We Charity

Hello!! In this post I'll talk about my experience in a charity event that I attended a week ago. So, this event named Run For Leprosy. This event was held by TFI (Teach For Indonesia) and powered by BINUS University. If we participate in this event, it means that we has donated for the lepers, because the registration fee for this event will be donate for them.

I'm really not regret for participate in this event, because in this event we can run together with our friends in a happiness. Although we were all tired, but it was eliminated in the presence of togetherness. This was totally fun and I enjoyed it. Besides, we also help TFI to improve the quality of life for the leprosy, and I really happy about it.

For you who didn't know what is leprosy, I will give you some explanation about it. Leprosy is a chronic infection caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis. Symptoms that develop include granulomas of the nerves, respiratory tract, skin, and eyes. This may result in a lack of ability to feel pain and thus loss of parts of extremities due to repeated injuries. Weakness and poor eyesight may also be present. Leprosy is actually not that contagious. You can catch it only if you come into close and repeated contact with nose and mouth droplets from someone with untreated leprosy. Leprosy can be cured. Treatment depends on the type of leprosy that you have.

FYI, Indonesia ranked third in a list of countries with the highest number of leprosy sufferers. Many people assume that lepers was dangerous, so they avoid them. But, have you ever think how the isolated feeling make them more slumped and at the end it will make them shorten their life. Whereas only with support from the people around them, they can be more inspired to heal themselves. So, why we aren’t choose to give them a support? As the young generation who have higher education, we should be more realistic. We must help the government to give them supports and also give knowledge about leprosy to people around the country, so that Indonesia can be free from leprosy. One of real action that we can do is to give socialization about self hygiene and environmental hygiene in the area where the level of hygiene is low. Besides, we also can do a campaign to refuse a discrimination for the lepers.

So, in the end I just wanna say that we don't have to do a big things to make a change, because with a little things if we do it together, we can make a change.
YES TOGETHER WE CAN!!!

Before we run, take a photo first :)
